The Houston Chronicle reports that ridesharing service Uber and Lyft have jumped into the Houston market. Uber has launched in 20 cities and is now making its way into the Houston market. Lyft will also begin service today. According to the Chronicle,
“Uber, which has been working with the city on a high-end private car service called Uber Black, announced late Thursday it would immediately launch its Uber X ridesharing service. The announcement followed competitor Lyft’s confirmation Wednesday that it would start service Friday.”
It is worth noting that both services, while highly controversial, are likely to bring more mobility options to all Houstonians–especially those who live in the city’s urban areas inside Beltway 8.
Uber and Lyft apps are available for iPhone and Android. Those apps can be downloaded here and here.
